Charity Golf Tourney Raises $77K for Cancer Centre
November 9th, 2018
The Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre received $77,100 from this summer’s Royal LePage Breast Cancer Charity Golf Tournament in a small ceremony at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital this past Tuesday.
It was the 22nd annual golf tournament that Royal LePage participated in and the fourth one that saw them join forces with the Yuill Family Foundation, over the years the golf tournament has contributed over one million dollars. “We sell out every year. It’s one of the tournaments in the city that everybody anticipated”, said Bob Kalista, owner of Royal LePage in Medicine Hat, “part of the attraction is that everyone identifies in some way or another with cancer and therefore the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre.
Debra Cantalini-Gallant was the founder of the annual golf tournament and after her passing people recommitted to the cause, said Kalista. “Our office loves to be participating and we are glad to be involved”.
The amount of money raised does not surprise Heather Lemeshuk, administrator of the Yuill Family Foundation, “It’s something this whole community should be really proud of”, said Lemeshuk, “The Yuill name and heritage has been in Medicine Hat for over 100 years, and one of the core pillars in the Yuill Family Foundation is to support cancer initiatives.”
The golf tournament runs every July and includes 18 holes of golf followed by dinner and a live auction. If anyone would like to participate in 2019, please reach out to the Medicine Hat Country Club for more information.
