Annual Charity Golf Tournament brings in $87,750
All parties were present at the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre yesterday for the cheque presentation. The Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club, Royal LePage, Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, and the Yuill Family Foundation all had a hand in raising $87,750 for the Cancer Centre.
The golf club hosted its 21st annual Breast Cancer Golf Classic in July. MHGCC general manager Cam Jacques says the funds raised from the tournament are matched by the Yuill Family Foundation, so the $87,750 comes from both. “The golf clubs portion of the donation comes from entry fees, auctions, 50-50 draws and donations from sponsors,” said Cam Jacques, the GM of the MHGCC. “The needs are there. Cancer isn’t going away anytime soon.”
This will be the 4th consecutive year Bill Yuill’s family foundation matched the funds the tournament raised. “This centre is important to the city of Medicine Hat, it is responsible for serving folks from all of southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan.” He continued, “we would like to keep supporting the golf tournament for as long as we can.”
The Cancer Centre, which opened a month ago, is a vast improvement from the facilities the hospital offered prior to the opening. “They’ve done a nice renovation here at the hospital,” Yuill said. “You don’t think of a cancer centre as a nice place to be, but if you have to go through that process and all those procedures, it’s far more comfortable than the old facility.”
